Today’s life calls for us as individuals to make sensible economic decisions in our everyday lives. The South African economy is in distress and so are many economies in the world. The decisions we make when buying things should very much factor this in.
Recently when I got the Ford Everest on test I asked myself a simple question, “why would anyone buy an Everest?”
You see this is the type of car we could call a sensible buy.
The Everest wears a few hats such as:
- a family car, a work car,
- a travel warrior
- and a conqueror.
This is what separates some cars from the rest. It hit me as I went about my daily life in the Everest that there was a lot one can do with it than just daily commute to the office.
It is the type of vehicle that would feel at home at a:
- construction site,
- maize fields,
- livestock auction,
- or just a good old adventure driven trip.
Features
The Everest prides itself for its build quality, spacious interior, and powerful engine line-up. It is a sensible purchase for families or individuals looking for a reliable and versatile vehicle to tackle both city driving and off-road adventures. On test, I had the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine joined to a permanent all-wheel drive system.
One of the standout features of the Ford Everest is its Terrain Management System, which allows drivers to switch between four pre-set modes depending on the road conditions. This feature, coupled with its rugged exterior design, makes it a great option for off-road enthusiasts. Moreover, the Ford Everest has impressive towing capabilities, with a maximum towing capacity of 3100kg.

Interior
Inside, the Ford Everest’s spacious three-row cabin can comfortably fit up to seven passengers, making it an ideal vehicle for larger families or groups of friends. The second and third rows can easily fold flat to create ample space for cargo. Furthermore, the Everest is fully equipped with modern features like a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and a seven-speaker audio system.
Engine
Under the hood, the Ford Everest comes with a powerful 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces an impressive 157kW of power and 500Nm of torque, allowing the Everest to deliver a smooth and efficient ride both on the highway and off-road.
Conclusion
Overall, the Ford Everest is a practical, reliable, and versatile SUV that provides an enjoyable driving experience while offering ample space for passengers and luggage.
It is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a sensible and long-lasting purchase.
Cost
Our test model comes with the prices tag of R1, 113 million but there are other models equally good at a lower price tags such as the 2.0 Bi-Turbo Sport at R965 400.
