Mazibuko Motors has unveiled what is to be South Africa’s first battery-electric pick-up bakkie, a car for the future that is currently in the concept stages.
Mazibuko Motor Company which was officially founded this year has been working behind closed doors since last year on the development of this innovative new vehicle.

The M1B is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive battery-electric pick-up.
Nhlanhla Mazibuko, founder and CEO of Mazibuko Motor Company, is looking for help and has started a crowdfunding campaign to get investors on board. He spoke to Kaya Breakfast on why it was important to make a South African version of an electric car.

He recently spoke at the E-Mobility Congress of South Africa and shared what he wishes to do with his company is to speed up the transition from fossil fuels to electric vehicles.
The decision to manufacture the vehicle was to keep up with the changes happening across the world. It was also from the frustration that South Africans who were passionate about EV’s (Electric Vehicles) are being denied access to the latest models being produced across the world.
The Design
He spoke a bit about the car’s aesthetics and how important it is to infuse the latest technology on car designs “Electrical vehicles are changing the way we design cars, from the body to the chassis and powertrain. Cars are more connected now, you get live updates, vehicle to vehicle communication. “

“We wanted to go for the minimalistic look, we wanted it to be clean and to have big arch wheels. We went for the cameras instead of rear view mirrors.”
The company has started a waiting list for all those interested in purchasing the car. The car is available for a road test. Orders will only start around December this year once the prototype has been built out.
