Tshwane has no mayor after Murunwa Makwarela was disqualified for insolvency.
Murunwa Makwarela, a Cope councillor who was voted mayor last week, has been declared ineligible, leaving the City of Tshwane without a mayor.
In a letter to the Gauteng IEC, City of Tshwane City Manager Johann Mettler announced the opening for the post of mayor.

According to reports member of the public notified the Democratic Alliance (DA) last week that Makwarela had been placed under sequestration in the Gauteng High Court in 2016.

Although insolvency in and of itself is not a scandal, the Constitution prohibits an unrehabilitated insolvent from having a public office, especially the Mayoral position.
Murunwa Makwarela has become the shortest-serving mayor of Tshwane.
