A 21-year old woman is in a critical condition after jumping off the Hartbeespoort Dam wall on Wednesday, 01 March.
The unidentified woman jumped off the wall into the dam at around 12h30. Emergency services rushed to the scene and attempted to hoist her to safety.
However, due to it being too dangerous to hoist her up the dam wall, using harnesses and rigged safety ropes, EMS carried her across the sluice to the wall.
“Because she was in a critical condition, it was too dangerous to hoist her up the dam wall. We had the sluices closed and rigged safety ropes and lines and took her across the sluice to the wall.”

Rescue staff attended to the woman while waiting for Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) to arrive.
She was rushed to a hospital with serious neck injuries and lacerations to her head and face.
There have been no further updates on her condition, but as off Friday, 03 March the woman was in a stable but critical condition.
