Billionaire Bill Gates buys a R16.4 billion share of Heineken.
Microsoft’s billionaire founder Bill Gates has purchased a 3.76% stake in Dutch beverage behemoth Heineken Holding NV.
The shares were bought on February 17, according to paperwork submitted to the Netherlands’ Financial Markets Authority (AFM) of the Netherlands.
According to the filing, he purchased 4.18 million shares through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Trust and 6.65 million shares directly from the beer business.

As of Friday’s market close—the day of the transaction—Gates’ total stake was valued at approximately R16.4 billion, or €848 million.
Gates has made investments in other Netherlands companies besides Heineken.
Bloomberg reports that the affluent investor has also invested in the online retailer Picnic and owns a roughly 1.3 per cent stake in the fertilizer manufacturer OCI, which is traded on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
