Robert Mugabe’s son has been arrested for reportedly trashing cars over the value of R200 000 at a party in Harare.
The son to the former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe Jr. is facing three counts of malicious damage to property and two counts of assault.
Mugabe Junior’s lawyers say they 31-year old is being accused of assaulting and spitting on the officer, after allegedly smashing the windscreens of a few cars.
While Mugabe Jr. has denied the allegations, his arrest comes after a complaint by a friend, Sindiso Nkatazo who claimed the damaged property amounted to over $12 000 (R218 197,92).
Mugabe Jr’s lawyer, Ashiel Mugiya say his client is no longer in prison and they’re trying to reach an amicable settlement outside of court.
This is Robert Mugabe’s second child with his wife Grace.
Mugiya argued that a thorough investigation wasn’t done after the incident, and an out-of-court settlement was put forward because his client and the complainant are friends.
According to Mugiya, the charges of assault against the officer and resisting arrest were likely to be dropped.
