Anele Tembe’s father, has expressed his deep pain at the news that Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, better known as AKA was murdered.
Moses Tembe, whose daughter was engaged to the late rapper in February 2021, shared his shock at the rapper’s brutal end.
In a statement, Tembe said, “It is with deepest shock that we’ve learnt of the passing of Kiernan. Kiernan was an extraordinarily talented musician. His music contributed meaningfully to South Africa’s rich musical tapestry. We extend our condolences to his extended family his fans.”
The prominent businessman’s daughter was in a tumultuous relationship with AKA at the time of her death.
Speculation that AKA was abusive towards Anele were brought to light after she apparently fell to her death from the 10th floor of a Cape Town hotel in April 2021.
Anele’s father denied that his daughter was dealing with mental health issues and slammed AKA’s version of events from the night the 22-year old died.
Speaking after AKA’s tell-all interview, Tembe said, “I cannot allow an unfortunate narrative to go unchallenged, a narrative that irks me to no end that is ‘Anele was chronically suicidal’.
All I can say is, until Anele turned 21, not a single member of her family, my family would have associated her with suicide.”
Extending his condolences to the Forbes family, Tembe said he understands the deep pain AKA’s parent’s are going through.
“As a parent I feel deep pain for Kiernan’s parents, Tony and Lynn, his daughter Kairo and extended family.”
Tembe appealed to the public to show compassion and give the family space, time and respect on all platforms.
AKA was gunned down on Friday, 10 February after having dinner with friends, in Florida Road, Durban.
