Ukhozi FM presenter, Bingelela Mpanza says she’s still traumatized after being kidnapped and robbed.
Sharing her terrifying ordeal, Mpanza said she and a friend were held at gunpoint and forced out of their vehicle near the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 04 February.
Speaking to a KwaZulu-Natal publication, Mpanza said she was on her way to the SABC studios in Durban at the time.
“I was with a friend when the incident happened. I’d asked him to accompany me to work since it was already late at night. We were 5-minutes away from work and just stopped at the robot behind Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Two men approached us while we were waiting for the robot to turn green, they had guns.
They fired shots in the air, I guess this was to scare us. They held us at gunpoint and forcefully removed us from our car. They handcuffed us before taking us into their car. Then they took us to the bush. One of them drove our car to an unknown place.”
Bingelela Mpanza who hosts the Sunday morning show, Sekuntwela Ezansi between 03:00 and 06:00, said she begged the men to take whatever they wanted but to leave them alive.
While Mpanza is alive to tell the tale today, she said both her and her friend had their bank accounts cleared of R45 000.
“We were scared, they kept shoving their guns in our faces. They took us to a small room and said they were going to kill us if we didn’t co-operate.
Another two men came in, one kept an eye on us while the other three were busy with our phones.
They transferred R30 000 from my friend’s bank account and R15 000 from mine.”
Mpanza and her friend were then dumped on the N2 on Queen Nandi Drive.
Their cellphones were stolen and Mpanza’s vehicle was found in Umlazi on Sunday morning. No arrests have been made yet.
