A rare green comet will be visible in South Africa this week, after more than 50,000 years.
The rare phenomenon will be a delight for stargazers who can, according to Astronomical Observers, spot the neon green comet with their naked eye.
Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), otherwise referred to as the Green Comet has reportedly not passed Earth since the age of the cavemen.
The rare green comet will be visible from most parts of Earth, including South Africa on Wednesday, 08 February, or Thursday, 09 February.
Getting its green glow from diatomic carbon, which are pairs of carbon that are bound together, the comet is expected to zip at its closest distance to Earth within a few seconds.
While it is best viewed with the use of binoculars or through a telescope, people can still spot the green comet while gazing up at the night sky.
One can also livestream the comet coming into Earth’s orbit via the YouTube channel, THEREALPAX.
