Flavio Hlabangwane has been found guilty of murdering and dismembering his cousin and storing her body parts in his freezer.
Hlabangwane was on Tuesday, 31 January convicted for the gruesome, premeditated murder of Tshepang Pitse.
The two were in a hidden relationship and had a fight before he killed Pitse and hacked her body into pieces.
Flavio Hlabangwane confessed to the murder of Tshepang Pitse, and admitted that he plotted to kill her after discovering she was cheating on him.
“I drove to an open field and buried her body parts in an open grave.
But before I left, I realized that she was not properly buried and was easy to see. I began to dig a deeper hole and in the process, I hit the head of the deceased.
I then disposed of her torso in Kliprivier and proceeded home, where I started cleaning up using bleach.”
Hlabangwane’s statement was read out in court by Judge Moosa before judgement was handed down
It was Hlabangwane’s girlfriend who discovered the body parts of a female in his freezer, at his Protea Glen, Soweto home in November 2021.
Judgment was handed down at the Gauteng High Court in Palm Ridge.
The Soweto body parts case caused shock across Gauteng, with many making comparisons to Jeffrey Dahmer.
After cutting up Pitse into pieces, Hlabangwane buried some of her body parts in shallow graves around his property.
He then stored some parts of her in his freezer.
In November 2021, Hlabangwane underwent mental observation, after he tried to take his life on two occasions.
The 28-year-old will be back in court on 10 February for pre-sentencing reports and sentencing.
