Alleged child sex-ring kingpin, Gerhard Ackerman has been rearrested after he violated his bail conditions.
Ackerman who stands accused of 740 counts for rape, attempted rape, attempted murder and the production and distribution of child porn, failed to appear for his court appearance citing ill-health.
Police however, rearrested Ackerman in Florida, west of Johannesburg after he was spotted by members of the public.
Ackerman claimed that he had food poisoning but failed to obtain a medical certificate. However, police say that he instead used the day to move to a friend’s house in Pretoria and appeared to be “making an escape.”
The 52-year old and his co-accused, Paul Kennedy are accused of luring young boys into a sex-ring, where they were groomed to have sex with men.
Kennedy has since taken his life, which means Ackerman will be facing charges alone.
Gerhard Ackerman is expected back at court on Wednesday, 01 February.
