Ousted City of Joburg Mayor, Mpho Phalatse has her eyes set on becoming the next Democratic Alliance (DA) leader.
Phalatse made her intention to bid for the opposition party’s lead role on Monday, 30 January.
Briefing media at the Hector Pieterson Memorial, Phalatse said she is prepared to challenge current party leader John Steenhuisen for the top position.
According to Phalatse, the DA is in need of a more dynamic leader, and one who can steer the party into diversity.
Phalatse who was once again removed from the Executive Mayor’s office via vote of no-confidence said she feels prepared to lead the DA.
“I believe that my many years of experience as a technocrat in government and as a politician have sufficiently prepared me for the position of the DA federal leader.
Leading a huge multiparty coalition government in the City of Johannesburg, which is the economic hub of the country and continent, is not something to be taken lightly. In fact, I am the only candidate for this position who has had this rewarding experience.”
The DA’s provincial conference is taking place in April.
Phalatse expressed that her decision to challenge for the DA leader position comes because of the ANC’s failings.
