Learn a skilled trade at a TVET College to enter the workforce as a functional worker.
Technical Vocational Education and Training Colleges form part of the department of higher education and training. TVET colleges are usually overshadowed by the idea of passing matric and registering at a university. But skilled trades are also in demand and do not always require a matric certificate as a prerequisite to register.
TVET colleges accept students who have passed grade 9.
South Africa’s education system has three bands:
- General Education and Training (NQF) Level 1
- Further Education and Training (NQF) Level 2- 4
- Higher Education and Training (NQF) Level 5- 10
All students who pass grade 9 acquire a General Education Certificate. This allows you to further your studies without obtaining a matric certificate at a TVET College.
What can register to study using a General Education Certificate at a TVET college?
- Pre-Matric Business Studies
- Pre-Matric Engineering
