Murder increased by 7.5% in the Gauteng province compared to the same period in the previous year.
This means that 93 people were killed in the third quarter of the 2020/21 financial year.
This is according to the province’s latest crime statistics released at the Gauteng Legislature.
Twenty-four of these murders were a result of domestic violence.
According to police, they were able to reduce crime by 9,6%, significantly above the 7,5% target set for the 17-community reported serious crimes.
The police ministry says contact crimes dropped by 2.7% in this period.
