Andre de Ruyter as opened a criminal case after he claims his coffee was allegedly laced with cyanide.
The outgoing Eskom CEO claims an attempt on his life was made the day after he announced his resignation from the power utility.
De Ruyter says he was poisoned at the state-owned utility’s Sunninghill headquarters.
The poisoning occurred on 13 December, before de Ruyter’s resignation was made public, and after he had submitted his resignation to the Eskom chairman.
According to de Ruyter, after drinking his cup of coffee, he started feeling weak, dizzy and confused. De Ruyter claims he started shaking uncontrollably, vomited excessively and collapsed, thereafter being unable to walk.
While the power utility hasn’t responded to Andre de Ruyter claiming his coffee was laced with cyanide, the matter is being handled by authorities.
De Ruyter’s case has been transferred to the Midrand Police Station.
Andre de Ruyter will see out his role as Group CEO until the end of March 2023. This in order to ensure that there is sufficient time to find a successor.
