Phemelo Motene spoke to 43-year ANC veteran Carl Niehaus on Point of View on his suspension.
As the Former spokesperson for Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress of South Africa, Carl Niehaus was imprisoned for political reasons after being found guilty of treason against the country’s apartheid regime.
The national disciplinary committee (NDC) of the African National Congress (ANC) expelled Niehaus on Monday after finding him guilty of six misconduct allegations stemming from remarks he made before the former president Jacob Zuma was imprisoned last year.

Niehaus has referred to the National disciplinary committee (NDC)’s decision as absurd.
“I reject this expulsion from the ANC with the contempt that it deserves. I’ve been a member of the African National Congress for 43 years, I’ve dedicated my life to the liberation struggle and to the African National Congress,” Niehaus said.
