Newcastle Municipality Deputy Mayor, Musa Thwala denies that anyone was hurt after he lost control of his BMW at a car show.
The Deputy Mayor spun his ‘gusheshe’ into the crowd, crashing into the metal barricade, hitting several spectators in the process.
Despite Thwala’s claims that no one was hurt, in the social media clip, a number of people can be seen rolling on the ground after the red gusheshe pulls off.
The incident took place at the old Monte Vista Casino in Newcastle on Sunday, 27 November but the clip of Thwala spinning the sought-after vehicle has started circulating on social media.
It is unclear if the video was leaked by eyewitnesses after Thwala stated that it was not serious.
In a statement to TimesLive, the Deputy Mayor said he’s not going to stop spinning cars because of the incident.
“I can’t be held to ransom just because I have a life in my spare time. I will continue spinning if I get a chance and an opportunity because this is something I love and support. I’ve got a life. Being a deputy mayor doesn’t mean I’m stuck. I’m a human being also.”
Thwala claims people are playing politics with the video but is adamant that no one was injured, saying his car didn’t hit a single person.
“Not a single person was injured. There is nothing much that happened there. It was just a sport and it was legal. Everything was smooth there, just that there are people who are playing politics now.
Police and paramedics were there and I can send you their report; no-one was injured and the car didn’t hit one person.”
