Golfer Tiger Woods is recovering after an horrific single-car accident that happened on Tuesday morning in California.
The American golfer suffered injuries to both his legs as his car flew off the road and flipped several times.
According to a statement released on his Twitter page, the golfer has undergone a long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle.
“Mr Woods suffered significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery,” Interim chief executive of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Anish Mahajan, said in a statement.
“Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilised by inserting a rod into the tibia.
“Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling,” he added.
According to the statement, Wood is “currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room.”
