Lungile Nxelelwa was sentenced to two life imprisonment sentences for the murder of his girlfriend, Keneilwe Pule.
The High Court ruling from the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court will decide his fate for the brutal murder in 2019.
The court also added an additional five years on his third charge for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Pule was raped, killed using a grinder and set alight. Her family seeks justice for her death and calls for gender-based violence and femicide to be taken seriously.
President Ramaphosa launched the GBV Fund on the 4th February amid a wave of gender-based violence that sparked during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown since March 2020.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety is expected to continue offering the family support throughout the process. This forms part of its 365 days Integrated Plan of action to deal with violence against women and children.
“This is one of the many cases that we have ring-fenced through our family justice unit, to ensure that we provide psycho-social support and assistance to the families and victims of gender-based violence in the province. We are at a very critical stage of the case where justice is about to be served as the perpetrator will be sentenced. It is important that just like we did in other cases, we continue to walk this journey with the family and provide support through our professional staff,” spokesperson Ofentse Morwane.
