President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the State of the Nation address, this Thursday 11 February at 19h00. Kaya Breakfast roped in Political Analyst and University of Pretoria Senior Lecturer, Dr. Sithembile Mbete to preview the SONA 2021.
If you missed the breakdown, Dr. Mbete touched on how the COVID-19 pandemic would be the focus of this year’s SONA. With the lockdown from March 2020 weighing the economy down, job losses and various sectors seeing closures, would the President alleviate fears and concerns by disclosing a recovery plan?
The hope is to have a detailed overview of government’s work over the past year as well as be given scope of future projects and areas of development.
This year’s SONA will have none of the red carpet frills and will be a joint seated and virtual address, with no more than 50 members of parliament present.
There will be no red carpet and procession of the three arms of the state. Where possible some SONA traditions will take place virtually.
