We all know someone who has an air fryer, because they probably told you that they have an air fryer. Considered the biggest must-have kitchen appliance by those who own one, are they really that great? We take a look at all the must-have cooking appliances that could make your life a bit easier this year.
Lockdown 2020 saw many of us spending more time in the kitchen, experimenting and testing new recipes and cooking methods. We marvelled at videos showing us deliciously sinful creations made to look so easy with the right appliance, and we all drooled over the air fryer videos showing crispy and perfectly golden fried goodies.
Social media was overtaken by pictures and videos of food creations and testimonies praising air fryers, instant pots, food processors and mixers. We take a look at the appliances you should consider investing in this year.
Air fryer
There’s no denying that air fryers changed the cooking game. The promise of crispy fried goodies without the use of a pot of oil was too much to resist for so many. The almost cult-like testimonies of so many users is hard to ignore. So ditch the take out and invest in an air fryer instead.
Using an air fryer means you use up to 80% less fat, it also cuts cooking time considerably and has multiple functions. You can make crispy chicken wings, perfectly toasted sandwiches, roasted vegetables, bake delicious pies, breads and even cakes and biscuits. The possibilities are endless.
Food processor or blender

One of the great kitchen appliances to invest in is a food processor or blender.
Food blenders are great if you or your kids struggle to eat fruits and vegetables, which are essential for healthy living. You can turn your veggies and fruits into delicious juices, soups and smoothies.
Food processors are also just handy to have on hand in the kitchen. Chopping veg finely, making sauces, dips, whipping cream, making dough, butters and crumbs is super easy with a food processor. Blending, chopping, dicing, slicing and grating is no longer a chore. Depending on the model you buy, you could even mince your own meat.
We’d give this a solid must-have thumbs up. There are plenty of models to choose from, from simple, smaller models to the huge, multiple attachment models, just pick the one you need and the one you can afford.
Instant Pot

Imagine putting practically every cooking method into one item. That’s pretty much what an Instant Pot does.
Depending on which model you buy, you can have up to 11 functions in one pot. We’re sold! Functions include a pressure cooker, slow cooker, sauté pan, rice cooker, sous vide, yoghurt maker, food warmer, steamer, steriliser and an air fryer. They also promise that cooking your food can go up to 70% faster.
Fans of the appliance have plastered social media with images of their stews, soups, cakes, roasts and even eggs they’ve created in their pots. Apparently you can also use it to sterilise your baby’s bottles. The convenience seems almost too much to handle.
