Private school, Curro will be introducing afternoon classes from 2023, for kids who struggle to wake up early.
Curro PM will offer late risers and their parents an alternative to the early morning school rat race with classes that start from 13h45 until 18h30.
According the Executive Head of Curro Durbanville, Riaan Stroebel, there are a number of benefits for children to wake up later both mentally and physically.
“Researchers have shown repeatedly that allowing students to wake up later results in better grades and improved health.
At Curro, we are always looking for new ways to reach and support our learners and have seen some exceptionally promising learners suffer from thwarted potential simply because they are put off by the current way of doing things.
For them, the liberalised yet structural approach of Curro PM is the answer to making their school journey relatable and enjoyable.”
In addition to the more relaxed school schedule, all lectures will be recorded and available online or via livestreaming.
There is a catch however, as the afternoon classes will only be made available to those learners who have met certain academic requirements.
The flexible school schedule will be available to learners in Grade 7 to 9 who have achieved an academic benchmark of 60% in numeracy and literacy.
