Kwara Kekana, Gauteng Health Spokesperson, recently joined Kaya Breakfast to breakdown the province’s plans to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine.

The health authorities said their aim was to vaccinate more than 10 million citizens of Gauteng.

How will this work?
Kekana shared that frontline worker and those that are known to have been in contact with those that have contracted Coronavius would be first in line.
“The first category will obviously be health workers but within that, there are health workers that will be prioritised…” – she said. This will then be followed by Police Officers, JMPD workers etc.

Kekana also added that the Department would be working with key stakeholders within the province, particularly health care professionals.”The second phase will involve frontline workers…patients over 60 years, patients over 18 years with co-mobilities.” she said.
She also spoke about the ongoing conversation around the safety of the vaccine, its origins and the numerous conspiracy theories around the vaccine on social media.
“There are people who are raising valid and genuine issues when it comes to the vaccine and I think those questions need to be responded to and to allay people’s fears the government will have to address these concerns.”
