Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to award-winning poet and World Poetry Slam champion.
Xabiso Vili is a social activist, performer, writer, and TEDx speaker who resides and works in the City of Tshwane.
He was named the World Poetry Slam Champion in 2021 where he competed against slam poets from 40 different countries in Brussels.
With his poem “Forget How To Die,” Xabiso Vili made a strong impression on the worldwide jury and was named the winner of the 2022 World Slam Poetry Competition.

Xabiso says he uses his writing to explore his inner life and develop a connection to the outside world.
Reacting on his recent win as the 2022 World Slam Poetry Competition, he said he was over the moon.
“This is for me truly a dream come true, I had written down about 10 years ago that I wanted to be one of the best poets inn in the world, and now I don’t know if there is a cloud to describe how I feel right now.” said Xabiso.
He also gave Kaya 959 listeners a taste of his poetry with a special performance on the show.
