The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the Johannesburg man who was arrested after 6 bodies were discovered in his panel-beating shop only faces one count of murder.
Police made the grisly discovery on Sunday after neighbours reported a foul smell coming from inside the shop in Joburg CBD.
Initially said to be 21-years old, the suspect’s age has been corrected to 20 years old and he has since been charged with the murder of one woman.
The NPA say that while the investigation is still underway, the suspect is not linked to the murder of the other five bodies.
However, the NPA does not rule out the possibility of further arrests being made.
The six bodies were believed to be sex workers but due to the extent of decomposition, this cannot be confirmed.
Forensic reports are underway to determine the identity of the victims.
The accused will appear in court on 18 October, and his identity is being protected as per the court’s ruling.
He will reportedly appear in an identity parade with eyewitnesses.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s father who owned the premises said he will disown his son if he is found guilty.
Police discovered the body of a woman who was reported missing and reportedly last seen with the 20-year old on Sunday, 09 October.
It is believed the suspect was living on the premises.
