Dr. Dumisani Blasius Khumalo, a close confidant and counsellor to King Misuzulu, was shot and assassinated by unidentified assailants immediately after leaving KwaNongoma’s Enyokeni Royal Palace, where he had been attending the reed ceremony.
76-years-old Dumisani Khumalo was allegedly ambushed outside his home in Nongoma, Kwazulu-Natal.

The late Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu and the current ruler King Misuzulu KaZwelithini were close friends of Khumalo’s.

Nontembeko Boyce, Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature, offered condolences to the Khumalo family and lauded Khumalo’s contributions as a historian and cultural expert in understanding royal family affairs.
“We are saddened by the news of the passing of Dr Dumisani Blasius Khumalo. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, Indonsa Yesizwe Think Tank and Indlunkulu yaKwaZulu (Zulu royal family).”
“We pray for them that may God give them strength and courage in this time of grief,”
“Dr Khumalo’s murder had left irreparable damage within the Zulu nation,” said Boyce.
