Within less than a month since awarding Gospel singer Pulane Maphari a SAMA award for Best Contemporary Faith Album – the SAMAs have stripped her of the award.
The decision comes after the singer allegedly misled the SAMAs by “repackaging and renaming an album she released in 2020,” presenting it as a new body of work.
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) is set to hand over the award to Denga Kingdmusic Takalani.
In a statement released this afternoon, Pulane and her team share that they have received an email from SAMA28 mentioning the “automatic disqualification” of the win which has raised some questions with them.
“I hereby confirm that we are yet to receive more information and details regarding this matter.”
According to the statement, no duplication or repacking of projects or albums has taken place.
“I released a studio album in September 2020, titled Restorative breath of life, and continued to produce a live album with new material that was used to advertise the Live recording titled Sacrificial Worship.
959 Breakfast asked Kelly Khumalo to weigh in on Pulane Maphari being stripped of her SAMA.
