According to Lucky Sindane, the unit’s spokeswoman, who spoke to ENCA, certain government officials are implicated in these syndicates.
‘When they come to you they produce documents that look legitimate… they’re dealing with a syndicate here.
“We’re grateful to Joburg residents who have faith in us to say we’ve reported these cases to SAPS for years, but nothing has happened,” he said.
“Up to so far, we’ve handed 56 properties to the rightful owners. They tell us who are the hijackers. These hijackers take advantage of poor people coming to the city. It will take time, but we’ll slowly get there. We’re now seeing results”

Sindane also said this has been a special operation by the city that has been looking at property in the city.
He said the city conducted an audit of properties in the city and looked at how many of them belong to the city while tracing those that belong to private owners.
He also spoke about how the owners of some of these buildings can not be tracked.
