Yesterday, Steve BikoAcademic Hospital situated in Pretoria confirmed that a 34-year-old male patient attempted suicide by jumping from the 6th-floor window of the hospital.
The patient landed on the third floor and sustained serious injuries. He was then transferred to theatre.
Reports that followed suggested that the patient had died.
However, the hospital labeled the reports as false and pleaded with the public not to circulate unverified information as this is insensitive and offensive to the family of the patient.
This morning, Steve Biko Academic Hospital spokesperson Lovey Mogapi confirmed to The South African that the patient died.
“He, unfortunately, passed away. He wouldn’t have made it. We tried everything we could do to save him but he did not make it.”
It has not been confirmed what the patient was initially admitted for but Mogapi confirmed that he was not a psychiatric patient. “He was admitted for something else,” she added.
Please note that this is a developing story.
