The AmaZulu royal family have announced King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s coronation ceremony is set for 20 August.
Prine Mangosuthu Buthelezi shared plans for the King’s swearing in ceremony earlier this week.
This after numerous delays and controversy around King Misuzulu’s ascension to the throne.
In March, President Cyril Ramaphosa recognised the kaZwelithini as the rightful heir to the throne. However, the KZN floods led to the ceremony being postponed.
Plans are now underway to honour the AmaZulu traditions and rituals.
King Misuzulu will on 20 August enter a cattle kraal at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma.
A separate ceremony for President Cyril Ramaphosa to host the AmaZulu royal king and present kaZwelithini with a certificate of recognition will be announced.
This ceremony will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Prince Buthelezi said the President’s formal recognition of the AmaZulu Royal is symbolic and would need to be held.
“The agreement between the King and the President was announced to the meeting of the Royal Family about the venue of the handing over of the certificate by the President to the King.
There were no issues raised for either, or against in view of the previous agreement of the meeting of Royal Family where the Royal Family had agreed unanimously that the ceremony will be at Enyokeni Palace.”

King Misuzulu’s rise to the throne has been deeply contested within the AmaZulu Royal Family. A number of senior members say they were not consulted about his appointment.
This has created a rift within the ranks, after the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini.
