Professor Thuli Madonsela, who holds the Law Trust Chair in Social Justice at Stellenbosch University, received a high honour when she was chosen to lead the Cities Alliance’s management board at the Assembly meeting held earlier this month.

There are 15 people on the new Management Board. Anibal Gaviria of Colombia was re-elected to lead the Assembly at the same gathering.

Madonsela stated that being named chair of the Cities Alliance management board was both an honour and a privilege.
“I am exceptionally honoured by the trust bestowed on me to chair the Cities Alliance. “
“There is a strong synergy between our social justice work of establishing a society and world that is fair to all and the essential work done by Cities Alliance to ensure no person or family lives in squalid subhuman conditions.”
“I look forward to working with the amazing leaders in this collective to contribute towards housing solutions aligned to the UN’s global Sustainable Development Goals,” said Madonsela
The Cities Alliance is an international collaboration that supports cities in achieving sustainable development while battling urban poverty.
The UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services), an organization devoted to carrying out infrastructure and procurement projects for the United Nations System, international financial institutions, governments, and other partners around the world, is the organization in charge of hosting the Cities Alliance.
