“Are you currently suffering from compassion fatigue?” The Best T in the City with Tbose wants to know.
Compassion fatigue differs from person to person but it often leaves people feeling exhausted, detached, emotionally disconnected, and helpless.
It also doesn’t just happen overnight, it is a build-up and by the time most people recognize they’re struggling, it has fully surfaced.
You’ve gotten to a point where you no longer care about everything that’s happening around you, you have become desensitized or complacent.
Kefi, who’s a clinical psychologist, says compassionate fatigue is a real medical condition. “It affects all frontline workers, I’m surrounded by nurses, General practitioners, and my family and all we talk about in our meetings is how emotionally exhausted we all are. Covid also didn’t make it any easier,” she tells Kaya 959.
A listener tells The Best T in the City with Tbose: “I am demoralized. I’m tired of South Africa as a whole. I’d like to relocate where South Africa and its problems are not in sight. go where there’s no such. The Tembisa issue from this wee was triggering.”
