Police announced on Wednesday that the owner of the infamous Enyobeni Tavern and two of his staff members had been taken into custody over the weekend and on Tuesday, respectively.
Following a move by the Eastern Cape Liquor Board, the 52-year-old thorny owner and his co-accused, aged 33 and 34, were charged with crimes at the Scenery Park police station.

This comes after charges were filed by the Eastern Cape Liquor Board for violations of the Liquor Act.
The sale or supply of alcohol to individuals under the age of 18 is against the law, and the owner is also suspected of selling or providing alcohol to such individuals.

According to Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, the three were found guilty of violating the Liquor Act following a liquor board inquiry.
“Among others, the investigation also focused on alleged violation or contravention of the Eastern Cape Liquor Act by permitting or conniving for the selling or supplying of alcohol to children under the age of 18 and for selling or supplying alcohol to children under the age of 18.”
“The tavern owner is expected to appear at the East London magistrate’s court on August 19 to face the said charges.”
“The two employees have been given an option of a fine in terms of the Liquor Act. Should they fail to pay the fine, they will be required to appear in the same court on 19 August 2022.”
The police are looking into these allegations.
As per the act, two employees have the choice of paying a fine. They will have to appear in the same court if they don’t pay.
