Joining My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose is producer Senior Oat and singer/songwriter Kemy Chienda. The duo is behind the biggest song in the country right now All In You.
Senior Oat chose to make the bulk of his album gospel-inspired. He attributes this to his “upbringing in the church” and the fact that “most of the music these days is about money and popping bottles” and has no significant message behind it.
“I think music back then was about telling a message. I just wanted to let people know about God through music,” he shares.
Since releasing All In You, the producer says he “gets a lot of people sending him messages saying that the song reminds them of the covenants they made with God (some even call me and cry).”
Kemy Chiyanda, who spet half of her childhood in Zimbabwe before relocating to South Africa says “she is a pastor’s kid” and grew up in the church.
“My family moved here and I’ve been a Limpopo girl. I’m a pastor’s kid and I started signing in church.”
Her parents were a bit cheeky about her career in music.
“I don’t always write about Jesus, you can write about love, pain, and experiences. The first song I ever wrote was a gospel song,” she tells Kaya 959.
