The company gathering or party is a great chance to let loose, have a good time, and celebrate with your coworkers.
It’s also a minefield of potential disaster, and one mistake might damage your reputation at work.
The possibility of your exploits becoming viral on social media or in the corridors has increased with the introduction of social media.

Kaya Biz with Guguletthu Mfuphi had a conversation with Vumile Msweli who is a career coach and CEO of Hesed consulting to unpack important things to consider at your next office function.
LISTEN TO THE FULL CONVERSATION HERE:
Msweli work functions are a great place to get to know people you work with.
“I think a little bit of exposure is a good thing, enough to connect with people, never make it about your personal life. You should be looking at that social interaction as an opportunity to get to know our colleagues. The person who is gathering the data is the one that is winning, the person who’s data is being gathered not so much.”says Msweli
She also encouraged Kaya 959 listeners to remember to stay away from subjects like politics, sex, and religion and instead focus on things like travel, kids, sports, pets, and movies.

Maintain a cheerful attitude and limit conversations to five or ten minutes.
“There are still rules in succeeding in your career, and one of the rules is you not having too much fun, and letting your guard down to a point where your colleagues or potential collaborators could find a way to actually disrespect you because of how you carry yourself. You must maintain the decorum of the space and place you are in. Respecting the name and brand of the place you work for, above all respecting your own brand.” says Msweli.
