Ladies, consider this a gentle reminder that you should pack those bags and take that girls trip! In case you need further convincing apart from Andy Maqondwana’s long list of reasons, then go because science says you should.
Even if it’s a sho’t left for the weekend, it’s been scientifically proven that holidays with your girl squad can leave you happier and healthier.
Whether you’re a mom or are just highly strung-out from the pressures of every day life, research suggests that a vacay with your besties can improve mental health.
For many women the break would mean getting away from ALL of their daily obligations , which often weigh them down.
It also allows women to focus on strengthening their friendships and deepening their sisterhood.
Here are 5 reasons why you should take that girls trip:
- A little R&R
Rest and relaxation are two luxuries most women don’t have because they seldom make time for themselves. A trip with the girls will give you a much needed break where you can destress and enjoy some quiet, responsibility-free time.
Without the added expectations that you get the shopping done, pick up the kids, run errands, do a load of laundry, get supplies, fix meals…
Life can get pretty hectic for working women, add kids and a family and endless to-do lists which equates to sheer exhaustion.
- Create lasting memories
Many women are still friends with their childhood girlfriends. This means they’ve gone through the most important milestones in life together. Taking a girls trip every so often will help strengthen that bond by creating new memories to last a lifetime.
- Laughter
Most women can relate to feeling so much better after a conversation with their bestie. Whether it’s to vent, to share juicy gossip with or just to catch up, a good girl talk session can leave you crying from laughter.
- Ward of dementia
A study has found that people who are lonely are at a higher risk of dementia. The Arkin Mental Health Care Centre in Amsterdam, found that 1 in 5 people between 65 to 86 years, felt lonely.
They either live alone, are unmarried or don’t have any social support. People who live isolated lives are more likely to experience cognitive decline.
- Can help you live longer
Having healthy friendships can, according to science, extend your lifespan. This is true for both men and women, regardless of age or health.
The results show people with strong social relationships increased their odds of survival over a certain time period by 50%.
What are you waiting for? Get to packing!
