A study by Adoozy Power has revealed some shocking details about the usage of cell phones by young people in South Africa.
According to the study, a large number of 18 to 26-year-olds check their smartphones up to 30 times every hour.
Another 25% of those polled indicated they checked their phones at least 10 times each hour, which is around five minutes every hour or 80-90 minutes per waking day.
This is the equivalent of watching a complete rugby or soccer match on your phone every day of the year.

Sekonnyana gave more information about the study and said they were shocked at how addicted and dependent this age group was to their phones.
“We wanted to understand what this mobile-first culture really means, and how bad or pervasive it really is and we realised that some of the statistics were really shocking.
“80% of the 18 to 26-year-olds say that they are addicted to their phones.”
“Already from the beginning, it already shows you just how dependent this age group is on their phones,” says Sekonnyana
The issue of smartphone usage is one that all parents and guardians who are active in guiding young people from adolescence to adulthood should be aware of.
These technologies are entrenched in Generation Z’s lives and culture, and the reality is they are not going away.
