The cost of kids’ breaktime snacks and lunchboxes
Cooking Oil is now considered a luxury item considering how much it costs these days.
The ridiculous price of oil once again highlights the constant increase in the cost of basics.
And whenever we talk about the cost of living, we forget that it also affects our kids. Besides the daily meals at home, kids need to eat at school.
So, one way or another, the more expensive things become, the more it affects our kids’ breaktime.
“Has the constant increase in the cost of living affected what you pack for your child’s lunch?” Asks Thomassnd Skhumba on the morning show.
Phindi says her daughter is not choosy so that has helped her a lot. “My daughter is in Grade 1, she takes a lunch box 2 fruits fruit and a Danone. Thankfully she’s not choosy, some days she’ll ask for bread and butter, and she insists on eating porridge at school for breakfast so I’m not really affected that much.”
Mahlako says the school’s feeding scheme has helped her. “I have a grade 4 and a grade R kid, they eat from the feeding scheme and I give them 1 rand each for a snack. So far it’s working and I’m thankful for the feeding scheme,” she shares.
