School children will still need to wear face masks to school as government backtracks on its previous regulations, calling it an error.
On Wednesday, Health Minister, Joe Phaahla released limited regulations with regards to Covid-19 since the National State of Disaster was lifted.
The regulations were amended to include an exemption for children at schools and the use of face masks.
New limited regulations stipulates that a person must wear a face mask when entering and being inside an indoor public space.
However, children at schools were initially given an exception for the use of masks at school.
“This does not apply to children at school. Again, under these limited regulations, no person may use any form of public transport unless wearing a face mask.”
However, the department has since backtracked citing a tpyographical error for the confusion. Clarifying the matter in a statement, the department says children do not need to use face masks whilst playing outdoors at school.
Children will still need to wear masks inside the classrooms and when entering the school premises.
This until the period for public comment concludes in July 2022. Government extended the timeframe for public to comment on the country’s Covid-19 protocols by 3-months.
In the interim, the limited regulations will apply which includes the handling of travel in and out of the country, events, and vaccination status.
