A city in the US State of Kansas has banned co-living with immediate effect, making it illegal to have a group of unrelated roommates split the cost of rent in single-family residential zoning districts.
Sharing a living space with friends and family has its pros and cons, which sparked the question from Thomas And Skhumba: “What would you say is the best thing about sharing a home with your family? Also, what’s your biggest challenge with sharing a home with family?”
Skhumba shares: “One of the things that make me not want to stay with my sister is because she’s a professional opera singer. Even my late grandfather, who was a patient man, grew tired of her singing,” he says.
A listener doesn’t mind sharing her living space but there’s only one problem. “What I love about sharing a home with family is sharing a meal. Especially when my mom cooks, but what I dislike, is we both look each other in the eyes asking ourselves who’s going to be buying the meal that is going to be cooked,” she shares.
Simphiwe, who moved back home last year shares: “I lived out of home until last year when my mom lost her job. I had to move back home because of Covid. I love the fact that my mom makes me lunch everyone morning but I’m enough. I love my sisters toobut I want my own space. I bought a house and my family doesn’t know,” she said.
