On Friday, it was reported that South African dance music duo Black Motion reportedly split.
This was according to entertainment blogger Musa Khawula who tweeted that the duo has split and has canceled a show in New York.
Sharing his latest gig guide on social media, Murdah Bongz appeared to be booked alone and now goes by the stage name Morda. Thabo Smol also appeared to be doing solo gigs at the moment.
On Saturday, thie duo issued a statement slamming the reports made by Musa Khawula. They put it on record that they had not parted ways. “Black Motion still exists and has plans for many more years to come.”
The only change is Murdah Bongz rebranding to Morda. This is because he is ready to launch a solo career as a DJ but will still remain part and parcel of Black Motion. The same applies to Thabo Smol who is also getting into other business ventures.
Black Motion is made up of DJ/producer Robert Bongani Mahosana and percussionist Thabo Smol Mabogwane. They formed Black Motion in 2010 in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.
The pair is known for infusing house music with indigenous percussion and multilingual vocals.
