In a terrible display of sportsmanship, Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo is being investigated for assault after smashing a child’s phone out of his hand.
After United’s dismal 1-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday, the Portugal striker was in a temper and stormed off the field at the end of the match.
Walking through the player’s tunnel, Ronaldo was jeered at by Everton fans and reacted by smashing a fan’s phone from his hands.
The Everton fan, 14-year old Jake Harding attended his first football game with his mom Sarah Kelly. Harding is autistic and has dyspraxia and was left according to his mother, bruised on his hand.
The boy’s phone has been completely damaged and his mother has asked anyone with video footage to share the incident.
She wants people to be aware of what a professional footballer and father himself, did to her child.

Merseyside Police in Everton, confirmed they are liaising with both Manchester United and Everton following reports that a boy was allegedly assaulted by an away player at the game.
After the incident Ronaldo issued a statement apologising to the fan and invited him to a game at Old Trafford as an apology.
“It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game. I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.”

However, the boy’s mother is intent on pressing charges and filing for damages for the loss of property and trauma her son experienced as a result.
