Police in Mpumalanga issued a R50 000 reward to anyone who can come forward with information regarding the robbery of respected Ndebele artist, Dr Esther Nostokana Mahlangu.
Looking at the number of crimes that happen in our county, do you think SAPS giving rewards is the only way we can combat crime? Should we make rewards a thing to catch criminals?
Thomas, who lost his brother in an attempted highjacking believes this can work.
“For example, my younger brother that passed away in an attempted highjacking, I wish there was a reward because I want to get to the bottom of it and this has been over 15 years. But I’d still like to know who did that as this person still hasn’t been caught,” he shares.
Skhumba shares: “I’m a victim of crime. We had two break-ins at home and I’m still waiting for the cops to come and take fingerprints. This is 20 years later.”
Responses on social media:
I would rather report anonymously but that can be swept under the carpet if there are drug lords involved ..also It's not easy to report crime for reward..cos some cops are paid by thugs especially on drugs crime. They will know you ngeke uyidle kamnandi naleyomali😏

The same SAPS are responsible for CIT heists but they don't report each other, we only find out about their involvement in the crime when they get shot at the scene of the crime. The rewards system does not and will not work. SAPS should just do their job period.
