Did Will Smith really slap Chris Rock at his year’s Academy Awards? Why, yes he did.
Smith and Rock have always had an amicable history, even with the comedian taking jabs at Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith over the years.
It seems the camaraderie has worn off after this year’s heated exchange between the two Hollywood stars, when Will got on stage and slapped Rock.
Chris Rock made a joke about Jada’s shaved head, with a quip about her and G.I Jane. Smith didn’t look too phased initially but after looking over at his wife and seeing her visibly upset, he confronted Rock whilst he was hosting.
At first viewers thought the altercation was staged, with Rock taking the slap like a champ and continuing with his hosting without seemingly missing a beat.
But then Will Smith, yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out yo’ f**king mouth!”
“Oh wow Will! Will Smith just smacked the s**t outta me! Wow dude it was a G.I Jane joke!” Chris replied.
Will repeated his response to Rock, telling him not to mention Jada’s name, to which Rock replied, “I’m going to alright?”
Jada has previously spoken out about suffering from alopecia, a condition which causes hair loss and leads to baldness.
As a result she shaved her head and decided to embrace her baldness and Rock’s insult was therefore not taken lightly.
He was later called out on social media for attacking a woman about her chronic condition, with many labelling him and his toxic masculinity immature.
Naturally, Smith slapping Rock has become a meme already and the two have been trending on social media all weekend.
Several commended Will Smith for being protective of Jada and he later walked off with an Oscar for Best Actor, for his role as Selena and Venus Williams’ father in King Richard.
