A mother in the United States promised her then 12-year-old son R28 000 to stay off social media, and 6 years later she kept her word.
For your child’s mental well-being would you do it? How much would you offer them to stay off social media?
The Best T in the City listeners react:
A listener tells TBose: “These kids are very smart. I tried the same thing with my daughter – she created another account and blocked everyone that I know. She’d log onto WhatsApp with her friend’s phone.”
Anonymous in Randfontein shares: “These little rascals are very smart. my daughter had a phone and she was on social media. When I was going through her phone, I didn’t know she could have a folder where she could hide things. I found these scary things on her phone.”
What people are saying on social media:
@tboseZA nna my outie I’m willing to buy my teenage son a car and keep it in the yard where he can see it and wash it from time to time in order to get him to do well not only in school but socially too. He will get the car once he completes matric

He is 14, last year he had Snapchat & TikTok but we deleted it & made a deal to not have social media accounts till he is 18.
@tboseZA @KayaON959 I'd probably stay away or spend less time off social media if I had limited data.. #StayOffSocialMedia pic.twitter.com/Aou8czGNnh
