Residents of one of South Africa’s oldest townships say they are hopeful that President Cyril Ramaphosa addresses the failed state of municipalities.
KayaNews visited Kliptown in Soweto where around 70 people were affected by the recent floods.
Now Andre Kock has lived in the century-old neighborhood where the Freedom Charter was birthed since the early ’70s.
He says the government’s heritage and tourist sites like Walter Sisulu Square are white elephants that do not serve local people. Kock says Ramaphosa must address the bottlenecks in local government.
