This was the first year the AmaZulu King did not deliver an opening address of the KZN legislature.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini arrived at Premier Sihle Zikalala’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) 15-minutes into the premier’s address.
There was little guarantee that the AmaZulu King would attend the KZN SOPA because many felt his invitation was disrespectful given the circumstances around his coronation ceremony.

Due to the AmaZulu Royal family divided over the contentious issue of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini’s will, there’s the technicality that King kaZwelithini is not officially King.
Not until he has had his official coronation and given certification and recognition by President Cyril Ramaphosa in accordance with the Traditional KhoiSan Leadership Act 3 of 2019.
King Misuzulu KaZwelithini was named successor to the monarch last year. However, King Zwelithini’s first wife, Queen Sibongile is contesting the validity of the will.
Until the matter has been resolved, the coronation ceremony for the AmaZulu King has been put on hold.
Together with her two daughters AmaZule Princess Ntandovenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma, the Queen has called for King Misuzulu’s coronation ceremony to not go ahead.
The Princesses have applied for a court interdict to stop the procession from taking place.
