The community of Klawer in the Western Cape are reeling after 13-year old Jerobejin van Wyk was brutally murdered.
His mutilated remains were found on the property of 56-year old murder accused, Danie Smit.
DNA results confirmed the remains were that of the missing teenager on Wednesday, 16 February.
The boy went missing in the town 2-weeks ago, on 02 February after allegedly stealing mangoes from Smit’s farm.
Friends of the boy reported that Danie Smit had run over Jerobejin with his bakkie, while chasing the boys. He then picked the boy up and put him in the back of his bakkie.
Accompanied by police, Jerobejin’s mother confronted Smit as to her son’s whereabouts. She was told he went to get the boy food but when he returned the boy was gone.
He was arrested for kidnapping on Friday, 04 February.
Police and forensic experts then made a gruesome discovery and found body parts in a sewerage drain on Smit’s property.
Smit confessed to the murder of Jerobejin van Wyk telling his lawyer the boy was part of a satanic offering.
The self-professed demon worshipper also made a startling revelation that this wasn’t his first murder.
His lawyer, Santie Human said Smit told her of four others who were murdered by his hands. These killings did not happen in Klawer however, but in Sea Point.
Funeral arrangements for Jerobejin van Wyk will be made now that the forensic investigation has concluded.
Danie Smit stands accused of the boy’s murder, kidnapping, assault, intent to do grievous bodily harm, and defeating the ends of justice.
The case has been postponed to 26 April for further investigation.
