A teenager was stabbed to death at Madison Avenue nightclub in Rivonia over the weekend.
The 17-year old Grade 11 King Edward pupil who was underage, gained entry into the nightclub by using a fake ID.
According to a statement issued by Madison Avenue, the suspect was detained by authorities.
Hlompho Mbetse was stabbed outside the nightclub after being involved in a fight which broke out in the car park.
Security intervened and the situation was contained. Hlompho Mbetse then walked out of the venue’s car park, down the road.
He was then confronted by an individual who had not previously entered the venue.
The attack took place approximately 70 meters from the entrance to the club and Mbetse was stabbed to death.
An 18-year old was arrested and later charged with murder.
Emergency services arrived on scene to find the teenager lying on the ground with a fatal stab wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead on scene. The nightclub released a statement on its Facebook page, expressing their devastation at the unfortunate event.
“While there is a suspect in custody, this doesn’t take away from the tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with Hlompho’s family and friends. We understand the anguish you are feeling and we ask for calm and sensitivity during this difficult time for the sake of the family.”
The club will be cooperating with authorities during the investigation.
