Former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng apologises for his controversial pro-Israel comments, although he admits to doing so because he was required by the law.
Mogoeng was authorised by the appeal panel of the Judicial Conduct Committee for comments made in 2020 during a webinar with the Jerusalem Post.
He said he felt obliged as a Christian to love Israel and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
The Judicial Conduct Committee heard the complaint and found Mogoeng guilty – he was ordered to apologise unconditionally.
The appeals committee in January 2022 found that Mogoeng involved himself in political controversy. He was ordered to apologise – Thursday, 3rd February 2022 was the deadline and he did apologise reluctantly.
